None of them matter anymore. The band changed its name to Capital Lights , at which point I continued paying no attention whatsoever, though I did note that at least the new name sucked less. I just knew this band would not matter. I was right. This kind of cutesy-pop with its manufactured cleverness is an abomination to the music world. Or Trace Cyrus. Or maybe even Billy Ray Cyrus…or something.
Did that song end? I really need to think of something clever to post about how this is a bad song. This singer sounds like a girl. His forced annunciation is…well…forced. I need something cutting. Wait…How about this? That sounds pretty good. This is actually a really fun song, but not in the stupid way. This band appears to be made up of genuinely fun guys who can write great hooks with charming lyrics. This is really good. All I can say is that while there may indeed be bands we can predict will never release great CDs, whoever hired me to be the resident Nostradamus in this regard should be drawn and quartered, especially if that person was me.
An actual description of the album and why I like it may be useful at this point. I was looking forward to hating this so much.
Kicking myself for that because this is just so far up my alley. I'm in love. Gonna spend the New Year's with family and friends so this is gonna make the perfect soundtrack. Not a bad way to cap off the decade. I love this thing so much. This is so fun. Rank: 0 for One on hand, it can imply a time of enjoyment and release, but on the other, it could describe unending silliness bordering on stupidity and even idiocy.
The whole record bleeds infectious energy, sing-along-choruses, and pop rock melodies. For those wondering, Capital Lights explores the pop side more than the punk side, but it only crosses into electronica territory one time. This approach works and prevents Lights from becoming overly pretentious, and also keeps them from sounding too serious about their music.
This talent is displayed well in the bridge of this song. Speaking of variation, credit also should go to guitarists Brett Admire and Johnathan Williams. Though neither are groundbreaking, their mini-solos and riffs vary enough from the typical pop-punk formula to still be interesting and engaging.
Again, Bryson has a strong voice that rarely borders on annoying and stays enjoyable. Capital Lights was a Christian band, but they stuck more to clever wordplay than explicit Christian themes. Tweet Recent reviews by this author.
